A brief anatomy study

I have decided to do a little anatomical study and I have started with hand. So I took a look at the Chinese version of the manual of anatomical drawing Bridgman’s Complete Guide to Drawing from Life, which is in our collection of books.

This is an open project: I am starting the reproduction of body parts again in the future.

Here is the result of this work so far.

The fingers in this one are too poorly defined and the hatching isn’t efficient.

Another hand posture.

In this one the result is perfect.

Here the print.

Final version.

After a right and a left hand separate I engraved two hands together.

For the traditional Christmas exhibition A P.F. per le feste 2024 organized by spazio foyEr I created a pop-up postcard: I had a lot of fun making it!

What is a P.F.? “A special greeting, drawn by an artist for his friends or commissioned for the friends of others, who will receive it as a small original souvenir…..Read it however you like: Per festeggiare in Italian, Pro Festivitate or Pro Fausto if you miss Latinity….Pour Féliciter, with the chic touch of French. The meaning is always the same: remember me as I remember you and don’t forget a pinch of art and poetry among the ingredients that give flavor to life” (L. Pecorella Vergano, in P.F. un augurio speciale, Fondazione Italo Zetti, Dicembre 2006)

So I started carving the matrices.

Then I made the pop-up mechanism and finally the card.

I remembered that I had already made a print about anatomy some time ago.

The first one still concerns the hands.

The second one is a reproduction of a detail of the wooden decorations of the room for anatomical dissections of the Archiginnasio in Alma Mater Studiorum of Bologna.
