During Okuribi day Japanese families honor their ancestors with a rite called Toro-nagashi.
Lanterns on the black water show the way of peace, going away through the darkness with a weaker light shining on their surface. All around, the night is lighted only by the burning candles… This ceremony for the dead is similar to life: a short transfer of light through the dark. May our light be deep and brighten the night, even just for a little moment as it passes!
