The house is black

Work in progress

A brand-new project inspired by The house is black, Forough Farrokhzad‘s short film that was shot in the Iranian leper colony of Esperan in 1963.

I watched it by chance while I was hanging around on the web and I was immediately impressed by this poetry.

So I started working on a new project: an artist’s book about It.

The book is working in progress so I’m adding new photos and comments as the work progresses.

I have made some paper sheets using egg cartons to make the cover. In my mind they should have been black…. but something went wrong and they are grey-green. I will find a way to solve this problem.

I have just carved the first portrait.

The second portrait is about a young blind woman.

This man is shot while he is singing and dancing a strange sad song.

Last portrait.

Leper colony.

Now I just have to print the matrices.

Here are the test prints.

Now I have to make the book!

Here are the pages of the book.

Here are the covers. Finally, they are black!

Here is the final result: the assembled book. I’m completely satisfied with the result.
